Parkhead Hub - Frequenty Asked Questions (Staff)

Construction of the Parkhead Hub began in March 2022 and will be handed over by the contractors BAM in October, with a period of equipping and commissioning being undertaken before opening to the public in the new year.

Below are some questions with answers we have received from staff engagement sessions. Please speak to your line manager in the first instance if you require any further information.

Will I be able to visit the new Hub before I move in?

There will be planned orientation days before the building opens. A schedule will be agreed and staff will have the opportunity to book a session and visit the site before they transfer to the Hub.  This will be organised per service so focus will be given on specific areas relevant to the service delivery requirements/ staff areas given the size and scale of the site.  We are seeking volunteers to support this process so if staff are interesting in assisting, they should discuss with their manager so they are included in the briefing sessions.

What are the timescales for the different phases of staff/teams to move in?

The phasing of moves is being planned, with a draft timetable currently progressing through appropriate governance routes. Staff based at the existing Parkhead Health Centre will move first to ensure contractual timescales are met for handover of the building to the contractor, to allow demolition and development of the car park. It is hoped that staff will begin to move from the end of January 2025.

What are the opening times of the building?

The building will be open from 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday, and from 9am to 5pm on Saturday.

Will staff have access to the building outwith public opening times?

Staff have an entrance at the back of the building which they can use within set times.

Will the staff entrance / access staff route be fob operated?

Staff will have fobs to access the building.  Some areas are only accessible by fob and will not be open to the public.

Is there is a dedicated drop off area so staff will be able to park their vehicle to collect / deliver items?

There is a dedicated drop off area at the entrance along with an area at the back for staff to collect / deliver items for the staff storage area.

Is there any storage space in the agile area?

There are lockable storage units for items within the agile staff areas i.e. files, devices etc.

Will staff have lockers?

Staff will be allocated a locker.

How many people on an average daily basis will be working on each floor?

We are unable to confirm specific numbers as it will depend on the facilities within each floor, and clinical room usage etc.

Are the agile spaces accessible for teams on specific days or are these for mixed teams?

Each service has been assigned a specific area within the agile space where their desks are located.  This will enable staff to be co-located but no staff are formally assigned a specific fixed desk.  Given the operational support requirements and where staff such as secretaries are based on site each day, then it would make sense that these individuals use the same desk each day.  This should be agreed locally with the relevant managers in line with the support requirements for the team/ service.  Within this area we will operate a clear desk policy so staff will be required to ensure items are stored each day in the designated storage units provided.

Do desks need to be booked in agile areas or do staff just turn up?

We are looking at introducing a room/ desk booking system and arrangements will be confirmed with staff when they relocate to the building.  Staff orientation and induction sessions will be arranged so everyone will be fully briefed on the processes.

Are the 18 rising desks in one area or spread through the building?

These are located within the agile staff area however options are being explored to  provide an alternative solution within consulting rooms, for example, .addition of desk risers (i.e. Vary Desk), which can provide this functionality.

How many larger training rooms are in the building that hold 20 plus people?

There are 10 meeting/ conference rooms across the building along with the additional IT and general training rooms on the 3rd floor within the Learning & Development service area.  There are also rooms on this floor with flexible walls so these can be opened up to create a large conference room facility.  These spaces will all be bookable in line with service delivery requirements and further information will be provided in the Staff Information Pack.

Will rooms all be kitted out with IT.  Do we need to move anything from our old location?

There will be screens and equipment provided within the Hub, staff will just need laptops.

Will the docking stations be a mix of styles to accommodate the older/newer laptops?

The workstations have access to both NHS and GCC systems and will have the relevant equipment to enable all staff to dock a device.  Work is underway with individual services to capture any specific requirements so these are included in the final desk allocation.

What are the options for travelling to the Parkhead Hub?

Information will be included in the Staff Information Pack being developed for staff moving into the building.

Will there be staff and public car parking?

Limited car parking is currently available on the site. We now have a formal parking arrangement in place with the Forge Shopping Centre for the opening of Parkhead Hub.  Please see details in newsletter and use the link to register your vehicle.

There is currently no charge but please note that the Forge is likely to introduce a nominal fee to help with maintenance costs, and the introduction of a barrier etc

A new single story car park will be built on the Parkhead Health Centre site once it is demolished and will be available towards the end of 2025.  There will be a separate public car park and staff car parking areas.

Staff will have access to the car park via their building fob which operates the barrier for accessing the staff parking area.  All other visitors will use the public parking spaces or use alternative options available within the area.

The new Parkhead Hub public and staff car parks when compete, will be equipped with 60 bicycle parking spaces, 292 car parking spaces of which 12 will be dedicated to blue badge holders. 34 spaces will have electric vehicles charging capabilities and 4 are designated as Parent and Child spaces.
