Flu Vaccination Campaign in Glasgow City

Published:

The 2020-21 NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) Flu Vaccination Campaign is now underway across Glasgow City. Due to COVID-19 restrictions and to ensure we can keep our patients safe, the way people get flu vaccination may be different this year.

Vaccinations are being carried out during the months of October, November and December, and all patients who qualify for the flu vaccination will receive an invitation to attend or make an appointment by mid November 2020.

If you aged 65 or over on the 31st March 2021 you will receive an invitation from the NHS to attend a vaccination appointment at a local health centre or clinic. Previously, you may have went to your GP for the vaccination however, due to current social distancing rules and to keep you safe, we had to look at where was best for you to get your vaccination. In some instances we decided that going to a health centre or clinic was the best option. To allow us to deliver the vaccination to everyone who is eligible, health centres / clinics will be open in the evenings and at weekends for the duration of the Flu Vaccination Campaign and the only service available at these times will be flu vaccinations. We would like to encourage you to do everything possible to keep this appointment.

The appointment system means that members of the same house-hold may be asked to attend at different appointment times. If this is difficult for you to manage, for example, if you have caring responsibilities, then you should contact our reschedule centre and they will do their very best to arrange a more convenient appointment time. Contact 0141 201 4180 or email adult.flu@ggc.scot.nhs.uk to reschedule the appointment.

Please note that the appointment is only for the person named on the invitation. On the day, there will only be enough vaccine supplies for scheduled appointments, therefore we will be unable to vaccinate anyone who does not have an appointment on that day for the clinic.

If you are a patient aged 18-64 who has an underlying health condition there are a mixture of arrangements in place.  All patients will be contacted by their GP Practice with some patients being vaccinated in the practice premises and others in community venues.

If your general practice has identified that you are Housebound, you will be vaccinated in your home by a member of the HSCP Housebound Flu Team,  however you may still receive a letter inviting you to attend an appointment , if you do so please contact 0141 201 4180 or email adult.flu@ggc.scot.nhs.uk to cancel the appointment.

If you are not sure if you are on the Housebound List, please contact your GP practice who will be able to confirm this information to you.
If you need to travel on public transport to attend your vaccine appointment then this will be considered an essential journey.

We have produced a list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) to help keep you up to date with the process.

Further information on vaccination for all groups is available on the NHSGGC website or NHS Inform website.
