Glasgow Telecare Services transition to digital platform

Published:

On Tuesday, 4 March, our Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP) achieved a significant milestone in modernising our telecare services by successfully migrating to the Enovation UMO Digital Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) platform.

Telecare refers to a broad range of devices that are designed to help keep people safe in their own home by enabling them to request assistance in an emergency. The service is mainly used by older people or people with disabilities, but it can also support people who have significant health problems.

This transition to digital marks a pivotal step in enhancing the efficiency, resilience, and accessibility of telecare services for residents across Glasgow City.

The migration to a Digital ARC is a key component of our HSCP’s long-term digital telecare strategy. The initiative ensures that the 8,701 telecare users in Glasgow receive uninterrupted, high-quality services, while also paving the way for future innovations in the telecare sector.

The migration represents a forward-thinking approach to the changing landscape of telecare services as the UK transitions from analogue to digital networks.

The transition project has been a collaboration between our HSCP, CGI (the IT service provider), and various alarm teams. This collaborative working guaranteed a seamless transition, ensuring that the new digital infrastructure not only preserves but enhances the continuity and effectiveness of telecare services.

Lyndsey Teaz, CGI’s Vice President Consulting Services for Glasgow, said: “We're delighted to have partnered with Glasgow City Council, Glasgow City HSCP and Enovation – a leading provider involved in monitoring the wellbeing of community alarm users – to implement this new digital, cloud-based platform for handling the authority’s community alarm system. This implementation shows how CGI and Glasgow City Council are working together to evolve and modernise digital and IT systems for the benefit of everyone who lives and works in Scotland’s largest city.”

The implementation of this solution allows our HSCP to manage alarms and emergency responses more efficiently while integrating with emerging digital technologies, aligning with the ongoing shift from traditional analogue services to digital alternatives.

As part of the UK-wide move towards digital telecommunications, the migration of telecare services from analogue to digital is essential to ensure continued reliability.

Gordon Bryan, Head of Care Services of our HSCP said: “This migration is a significant step forward for both our telecare service and the people who rely on it every day. By moving to a digital platform, we are not only ensuring continuity of care but also setting the foundation for future advancements in telecare. The dedication, expertise, and hard work of our staff have been fundamental in making this transition seamless.”
