Local help to quit smoking

Published: | Stop Smoking

Help to quit smoking is free and available locally from Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP) staff and community pharmacies.

Our HSCP’s Quit Your Way community services offer specialist holistic support to help people stop smoking. Our staff focus on reducing health inequality and smoking prevalence in some of Glasgow City’s most deprived areas.

Wendy Thompson, Health Improvement Practitioner, from our South Team said: “In June this year we opened another drop-in clinic, held within Harmony Row Pharmacy, Govan. We’re working hard to continue to build up existing and new working relationships within the local community, whilst working closely with our pharmacy colleagues.”

Drop-in clinics are easily accessible and offer free face-to-face, intensive support from specialist advisors and free medication for a 12-week period to help people quit smoking. If you would like to attend one of the local clinics in Glasgow or chat to an advisor phone 0800 916 8858

Following a recent diagnosis of COPD, local resident Stephanie was advised by her GP to stop smoking. As Stephanie had been smoking since she was 13 years old and had never tried to stop, she wanted to get help to stop. She attended a drop-in clinic to get help to quit for good.

With specialist support and advice from staff and free medication to manage her cravings, Stephanie successfully quit smoking at the end of the 12-week programme. Since stopping Stephanie has said she feels amazing and has so much more energy. She has noticed she goes out more often than she did before and is enjoying spending more time with her family and grandchildren. As well as feeling better, she is also receiving compliments from people telling her how fantastic she looks, a real motivator for her to stay stopped.

At the clinics staff also provide local information and signposting to community events and organisations.
