What’s on at Parkhead Hub - community networking day in May and new dementia heroes cafe
Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP)’s Parkhead Hub has a busy month ahead in May. Following the success of the inaugural event last year, our second Community Network Day will take place this year on Thursday 21 May, from 10am to 4pm.
Like last year, a vast array of services from across HSCP, third sector organisations and local groups will showcase their services for local residents. Around 50 different stall holders are expected, offering a mix of information, giveaways and fun activities, ranging from hand massage to crafting, kids play and bike maintenance.
The event will focus on mental health and wellbeing. We are encouraging local residents to join in and have some fun whilst finding out about the range of services across North-East Glasgow.
New Dementia Heroes Café at the Hub
A new Dementia Heroes Café is now taking place at the Hub on the last Friday of every month from 9:30am to 11am. It is followed by a Dementia Hour in Parkhead Library running from 11am to noon to help local residents to take full advantage of the facilities at the Hub.
The cafe welcomes those living with dementia, carers, friends or family members supporting a loved one. Arvind Salwan, the founder of Dementia Heroes, said: “It’s fantastic to build on the award-winning citywide Dementia Cafes we’ve already established. We bring our unique blend of tea and chat together with music, playlist making, dementia friendly activities, along with information on our partnership network, referrals and activities within Parkhead Hub.”
Jackie Shearer, Engagement and Equalities Coordinator, Parkhead Hub said:
“The Hub has now been open for over a year and is an integral part of the local community. It has become the place where health, social care and communities connect. Every week at the Hub we have a range of different activities promoted through a weekly What’s On guide and of course are very much looking forward to welcoming the local community to the Networking Day on Thursday 21 May. We are encouraging local residents to pop in and find out what’s going on.”
