Parkhead Hub Update - August 2024

Published: | Health and Care Centres

The new Parkhead Hub will be handed over by the contractors BAM in October, and a period of equipping and commissioning is being undertaken before opening to the public later in the year.

The new Hub will integrate health, social care and community facilities, including a cafe and the new Parkhead Library. The building will accommodate approximately 800 staff.

An exhibition at the Parkhead Forge shopping centre is running until November. It showcases the plans for Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership’s (HSCP) new Parkhead Hub and its creative engagement activity with local community groups to ensure the art being installed reflects the local heritage.

Jackie Shearer, Arts Strategy Coordinator, Parkhead Hub said:

“We’re delighted to showcase the range of creative engagement that has taken place over the last few months with local people. The Forge is a great venue for this display with their new community space, and we have a programme of activity kicking off in September.

“These include Art Club on Mondays at 1pm for adults interested in arts and crafts, with no experience required. We also have Play Space running on Wednesdays from 10am to noon, which is for pre-school age children, toddlers and babies – adults must accompany their little ones.

“World Suicide Prevention Day is on 10 September and we’ll be marking this with a large scale specially-made 6 foot wooden tree, on to which the public will be invited to add messages and thoughts. Information will also be on offer.

“Falls Awareness Week will be promoted during the week of 16 September with information and activities to help people build strength and prevent falls.

“We would like to thank the Forge for all their support and enthusiasm for the Hub.”
