Come and Meander for Mental Health on Saturday 16 September while exploring the beautiful grounds of Leverndale Hospital, Crookston and surrounding green spaces. With free events and activities happening all day, from guided walks to face painting, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Meander for Mental Health is for members of the community, our patients, their families and staff from the hospital. You can come along by yourself or bring your friends and family.

Our HSCP staff support volunteers with additional support needs at UCI World Cycling Championships

Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership’s (HSCP) Local Area Coordination (LAC) Team has been busy supporting adults with learning disabilities to volunteer at the UCI World Cycling Championships in Glasgow. 

The volunteers, who were based in George Square, played a vital frontline role offering a warm and friendly welcome to the many visitors from all over the world who descended into the city for the cultural experience of the championships.  And they weren’t disappointed!

New outreach service provides easier access to sexual violence support in the north of the city

Our North West Health Improvement Team has been working in partnership with Glasgow and Clyde Rape Crisis (GCRC) to provide outreach support to women and girls in the north of the city.

The outreach idea was introduced in response to low referral rates to GCRC in the north east and north west of Glasgow. 

The low referral rates are due to complex barriers to engagement in the area, including cultural stigma, language and communication blocks, fear of disclosure and wider issues such as poverty, generational abuse and violence. 

‘Circles of Support’ helps building family support for children and young people in Glasgow

When we need support, the first people we often look to are our friends and family. But what happens for people who may not have that circle around them when they need care?

A successful approach to building circles of family support for children and young people is now being adapted to support adults and older people in a new pilot project.

The ‘Family Group Decision Making’ approach, which strengthens family and community networks to support children remain at home and avoid going into care, will be adapted for the pilot ‘Circles of Support’ project. 

COP 26 Exhibition at Gartnavel Hospitals

As part of COP26, an awareness raising art installation highlighting the impact of air pollution on health was hosted on the campus of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde’s (NHSGGC) Gartnavel Hospitals.

The Pollution Pods, by artist Michael Pinsky, is a series of geodesic domes whose air quality, smell and temperature safely and accurately recreate the pollution of five different locations on three continents: London, Beijing, São Paulo, New Delhi and Tautra, a remote peninsula in Norway.

Glasgow’s Community Link Worker Programme Expands

Forty more GP Practices in Glasgow will now get a Community Link Worker / Practitioner to help patients improve their health and wellbeing.

A Community Link Worker (CLW) is part of the GP practice team and supports patients with a wide range of non-medical issues that may be affecting their health and wellbeing. This includes things like: money worries; housing; mental health and wellbeing and loneliness and isolation. CLWs connect people to a diverse range of supports and services across Glasgow.

Sharing Experiences of Supporting Carers in Glasgow and Catalonia

Staff from carers organisations in Glasgow and Catalonia recently shared their experiences and highlighted the importance of support for unpaid carers.

Xabier Ballesteros Olazabal, Director of the Social Services Centre, Barcelona Council has been living in Glasgow, researching for his doctorate.  Xabier was a community development worker in Catalonia and founding member of the community mutual support group, ‘La Colla Cuidadora’ [The Carer Gang].

To keep engaging with local people, our HSCP’s Community Engagement staff have been running Locality Engagement Forum (LEF) sessions online as a safer way to meet with people and gather their views on our health and social care services.
