New Health and Care Hub in North East Glasgow moves Closer

The prospect of a new £64.3 million state-of-the-art Health and Care Centre for the North East of Glasgow moved one step closer on Tuesday, 2 June. 

An interim Board meeting of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde agreed the outline business cases which will now be submitted to the Scottish Government’s Capital Investment Group for funding.

The centre, which is proposed for the Parkhead Hospital site, will bring together the key supports from a range of health and care professionals to tackle health inequalities, improve health and contribute to social regeneration.

GP Out-of-Hours Service moves to Appointment Only from 1 June 2020

As part of a planned series of improvements to urgent primary care services, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde has introduced a new appointments system within its GP out-of-hours service on a permanent basis.

The new arrangement will help create a more robust, reliable and sustainable service by reducing waiting times, enabling discrete appointments and improving access to GP out-of-hours services while also ensuring social distancing can be observed at urgent primary care centres.

We are celebrating Carers Week from the 8 to 14 June 2020.  This week is dedicated to people across the country who provide support to friends, family and neighbours who couldn’t manage otherwise.

The theme of this year’s Carers Week is “Making Carers Visible”.  This is an opportunity to engage with both staff and the general public to ensure that people know about the help and support that is available.

Fred Beckett, Carers Lead for Glasgow City HSCP recognises the invaluable contribution of unpaid carers in Glasgow all year round.

Local Area Co-ordinator Thinks Outside of the Box to Support Service Users

Kenny Lang, a Local Area Co-ordinator with the Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership, recently had to ‘think outside the box’ about how to support one of his families to help reduce social isolation during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) lockdown.

Normally his team are able to support and introduce service users to the local opportunities in their communities on a face-to-face basis. Given the current situation Kenny volunteered to go above and beyond to help find a solution to support one of his families whose two sons both have learning disabilities.

Local NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde (NHSGG&C) Quit Your Way stop smoking services are still operating across Glasgow. Staff from the South Health Improvement Team of Glasgow City HSCP have been working with Sunny Govan Radio to promote the service and let local people know how they can access help to quit.

The radio station has interviewed smoking cessation advisor Laura Sinclair to find out about how we are running the Quit Your Way service during lockdown and about how people are coping during the pandemic.

Glasgow Recovery Communities Step Up to the Mark during the Coronavirus Pandemic

Volunteers, who run recovery cafes and initiatives in Glasgow, have stepped up during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic to support themselves and other people to help maintain abstinence from drugs and alcohol.

Supported by Glasgow Recovery Services, the volunteers are facilitating on-line meetings and activities three times a day, seven days a week helping people to sustain recovery from drugs and alcohol, maintain their mental health and reduce isolation by staying connected.

Staff and service users at the Glasgow City HSCP Chara Centre in Possilpark have been using the good weather during lockdown to maintain the centre’s garden. 

The social work centre provides emergency homeless accommodation for 27 females from all walks of life and cultures.
