Anderston celebrates National Breastfeeding week

Published:

As part of National  Breastfeeding Awareness Week and the UNCEF Gold Award celebrations, many local Mums and children came together to celebrate their experiences of breastfeeding at The Beacon Café (Salvation Army Citadel)  in Anderston on 6th June 2019.

The aim of the event was to highlight good nutrition with continued support towards working together to celebrate and increase our local breastfeeding rates.

The event also provided an ideal opportunity for Mums to meet socially and share their breastfeeding experiences whilst their children played and got involved with some of the fun activities on the day.

One local Mum commented ‘I’m glad I came, it’s so nice to meet some new faces and catch up with the old ones!
Annette Dougan (Health Improvement Practitioner) was delighted with the turnout of families which contributed immensely to the ‘feel good’ atmosphere.

‘It was lovely to welcome so many people to celebrate National Breastfeeding Week at Beacon Café. It’s great that we are based here in the local community area to provide support to breastfeeding families both in Anderston and in the wider Glasgow and Clyde area.  A fun afternoon was enjoyed by everyone which sums up the warm and welcoming hospitality by staff and volunteers’.

The Beacon Café operates every week on a Thursday  from 1pm to 2.30pm and you can find it at The Salvation Army Citadel, 1 Houldsworth St, Anderston, Glasgow G3 8DU.
