Celebrating International Nurses Day 2025
On 12 May, Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP) proudly celebrated International Nurses Day — a global occasion recognising the compassion, commitment, and vital contributions of nurses to society.
Established by the International Council of Nurses in 1974, the day highlights the essential role of nurses in health and social care systems worldwide.
This year’s theme, “Our Nurses. Our Future. The Economic Power of Care”, encouraged reflection on the value and impact of nursing. To support this, we created a collaborative ‘jamboard’, an interactive digital canvas, to showcase the outstanding work of our teams and explore what matters most to our nursing staff, both now and in the future.
Across the HSCP, Nursing Services organised a range of events to celebrate nursing careers and achievements.
Our colleagues in Prison Healthcare and Sexual Health Services hosted tea and cakes gatherings, providing opportunities to share career journeys and celebrate successes from the past year.
Elsewhere, teams took part in quizzes and fun activities, all centred around recognising the significant contributions nurses make within our services and the ongoing developments across our specialisms.
These celebrations also included recognition of colleagues from the West of Scotland Mother and Baby Unit, Police Custody Healthcare, Prison Healthcare, and our North East Community Mental Health Team — all of whom were shortlisted for this year’s prestigious Royal College of Nursing Awards. We extend our warmest congratulations and best wishes to them.
Lorraine Cribbin, Interim Chief Nurse, expressed her appreciation:
“I want to send a huge thank you to all our HSCP nurses for your ongoing commitment, professionalism, and unique contribution to person-centred care for the citizens of Glasgow. International Nurses Day is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate, come together, and take pride in all that you do. I hope you all had a great day — it’s very well deserved.”
