Green Fingered Staff and Service Users

Published: | Homelessness

Staff and service users at the Glasgow City HSCP Chara Centre in Possilpark have been using the good weather during lockdown to maintain the centre’s garden.

The social work centre provides emergency homeless accommodation for 27 females from all walks of life and cultures.

Debbie Nolan, Project Worker said: “Working in the garden – at a social distance - has been a great way to pass time during lockdown. Residents regularly use the garden herbs and vegetables for cooking meals in their rooms which are equipped with cookers and cooking utensils. Our residents have done a great job growing flowers and vegetables, weeding, decorating plant pots and picking up litter to keep the garden tidy and beautiful. We’ve also been able to enjoy watching baby finches using the bird boxes in the garden.”

Debbie added: “Working in the garden has given our service users, and our staff, some structure as well as providing a lovely outdoor space to relax, unwind and take our minds off of the restrictions we’re all facing just now.”
