Home Carers Give Betty a Birthday Surprise

Published: | Social Care

Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP) home carers gave service user Betty a birthday surprise by decorating her living room with balloons and banners to help celebrate her 90th birthday.

Home carer Gill Malley said: “We all enjoy caring for Betty. She is so outgoing and lively, you wouldn’t believe she was 90!

“Myself and home carer Natalie Sherlock did her tuck call the night before her birthday, which involves helping her into bed. We then told her we were going to polish her furniture, but we actually decorated her living room with balloons and banners so that she woke up to a lovely birthday surprise the next day.

“Along with her other home carers Josie Smith and Roberta Reid we also got her a present, which she was overwhelmed with. We were just so pleased to be able to help celebrate her birthday and put a smile on her face after what has been a difficult past year for all of our service users.”

Betty’s son Colin said: “Mum really loves her visits from her carers. They give her some company, and she enjoys finding out local news from them. It keeps her feeling like a part of the community. We really appreciate the effort they went to for her birthday. She had a wonderful day and enjoyed visits from the family, including ‘Blue’ the springer spaniel who turned 15 on the same day!”
