New HSCP Vaccination Team

Published:

Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP) has transferred vaccinations from General Practice (GP) to HSCP community services. The Vaccination Programme is coordinated at an NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) board level with our HSCP overseeing implementation across its three localities (North East, North West and South).

An Immunisation and Injections Team has been established to work in collaboration with Public Health and GP colleagues to provide an accessible, person-centred and effective service.

Anne Marie Jack, Team Leader said: “The team was set up in September 2021 with vaccinators recruited and starting work from October 2021 to February 2022. The team is augmented by bank staff during the busy autumn COVID and Flu Vaccination Programme. The team consists of clinical co-ordinators, nurse vaccinators, health care support worker vaccinators and admin staff.  They vaccinate those who need to have a home visit to be vaccinated including people who are living in a care home and people who are living at home but cannot attend a vaccination clinic. They have already vaccinated more than 10,000 people.”

Initially the Vaccination Team administered COVID and Flu vaccinations, but this year, from August 2022 the Vaccination Team also began to administer Shingles and Pneumococcal vaccinations and it’s likely that there will be more vaccines added as per Scottish Government/NHS Board guidelines.

This valuable service allows those who cannot leave home to remain safe and secure in the knowledge that they’re fully vaccinated.

A patient unable to leave her home who asked for a specific day and time for us to visit said: “Thanks, I would have missed these vaccines if you hadn’t taken into consideration all my issues, concerns and lack of phone. You’ve been very helpful.”
