New £17m Gorbals Health and Care Centre Opens its Doors to Patients
The new £17 million Gorbals Health and Care Centre opened its doors to the local community for the first time this week.Work began in June 2017 on the new modern facility providing improved access to a range of community and primary care services.
This project represents a significant investment in the regeneration of the Gorbals and will provide a wide range of benefits for the community it serves. This includes the transfer of four General Practices, one Dental Practice and other primary and community care services from the current health centre, as well as the introduction of other services, including specialist children’s services, alcohol and drug recovery services and children & families social work services.
The new Centre has been delivered as a partnership with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC), Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP), Glasgow City Council and Development Partner Hub West Scotland and their main contractor Morgan Sindall. New Gorbals Housing Association was also a key partner in the project.
This new building provides the opportunity to reshape services from a patient and service user perspective with care that is more integrated, accessible and efficient.
NHSGGC Chairman, John Brown, said: “I’m delighted to see this new Centre open its doors to patients today.
“It’s the latest new Health and Social Care Centre being opened in Greater Glasgow and Clyde to provide integrated health and social care to local communities.
“I’m confident this investment will be welcomed by all the patients and service users who will benefit from the new facilities and I’m sure the staff will enjoy working in their new surroundings.”
The design and construction of the new Centre was undertaken by Hub West Scotland, a development partner to the public sector, formed to build community facilities through a collaborative approach to procurement.
Iain Marley, CEO of hub West Scotland said: “This building is a fantastic example of collaboration and joint delivery between two significant public bodies: Glasgow City Council and NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde and I am proud that hub West Scotland has had the opportunity to lead the design and development of high quality facilities that will support the innovative delivery of co-located public services.”
David Williams, Chief Officer, Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership added: “The opening of this multi-million pound facility is a major boost for the area. Everyone involved has worked hard to deliver this new centre which will greatly enhance the quality of health care and support available to residents and users in the community.”
