Parkhead Hub Update - October 2024

Published: | Health and Care Centres

The new state of the art Parkhead Hub will be opening to the public soon.

The new Hub will integrate health, social care and community facilities, including a cafe and the relocated Parkhead Library. There will be three GP practices (Forge Medical Practice, Drs McKenzie and Burns and Meadowpark Surgery), a community pharmacy, dental services and the Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP) Learning Centre (a citywide resource).

Services will include health and social care services for children, adults and older people, and specialist addictions, justice, homelessness and sexual health services (Sandyford East), as well as health improvement and community initiatives.

A tender for the provision of a cafe service at the Hub has been issued through Public Contracts Scotland. The cafe is an important feature of the new facility and will provide a convenient service for those visiting the Hub for appointments. The cafe is also open to the wider public, making it a welcome new addition to the local area.

The Arts Strategy programme is in the advanced stages, with the main reception desk and the children’s area wallpaper now in place. The coming weeks will see the large-scale wall hanging installed at the entrance, and artworks and photographs on display throughout the building. Many of the artworks are by local people and together they tell a lovely story of the area’s past, present and future.

Our exhibition at Parkhead Forge shopping centre continues to run until the end of year. It showcases the plans for the new Parkhead Hub alongside the creative engagement activity with local community groups which has been inspired by the heritage of the local area.

Jackie Shearer, Arts Strategy Coordinator, Parkhead Hub said: “We were delighted to host a range of creative engagement activities over the last few months at the Forge including an art club and play cafe led by artist Rebecca Fraser. It’s a great place to meet local people. Additionally, our HSCP’s Health Improvement staff installed a memory tree as part of Suicide Prevention Week and our North East Rehabilitation Team rolled out information activities for Falls Prevention week. We would like to thank the Forge for all their support and enthusiasm as we prepare for the opening of the Hub.”
