Woodside Health and Care Centre in Glasgow has been recognised for its innovative design at the Scottish Design Awards.

Beating tough competition in the Health Building category, the replacement facility, which opened in 2019, was designed by Page\Park Architects in partnership with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC), Glasgow City Council (GCC) and Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership (GCHSCP), alongside development partner hub West Scotland.

The project aimed to create a bright, spacious and modern space. The centre takes up a triangular block bounded by Garscube Road, Hinshaw Street and Doncaster Street.

The building brings together a range of primary and community care services including an older person’s day centre, providing a fully integrated and efficient service for the local area under one roof.

Susanne Millar, Interim Chief Officer of Glasgow City HSCP, said: “Woodside Health and Care Centre is ideally designed to meet the requirements of the population it serves by providing patients and service users with a holistic and integrated approach to care. The Scottish Design Award is testament to the planning and partnership approach behind the facility which has resulted in a modern, welcoming building for staff and patients.”

Iain Marley, Chief Executive of hub West Scotland, said: “It is wonderful and very appropriate that the quality of the Woodside Health and Care Centre has been recognised. The efficient, functional and welcoming design benefits from the team’s experience in other recent award-winning facilities and reflects careful consideration of the wide range of important services delivered within the facility.”

Karen Pickering, director at Page\Park Architects, added: “We are delighted that Woodside Health Centre has won such a prestigious design award. This is a fitting recognition for the crucial input of the client, community, design team and contractor.”
