Working with the Mental Health Network

Published: | Mental Health

The Mental Health Network (Greater Glasgow) is a network of people and carers with a lived experience of mental health issues. The organisation works in partnership with Health and Social Care Partnerships (HSCP) as part of a commissioned contract within the geographical area of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC).

Glasgow City HSCP works closely with the Mental Health Network to engage with service users in both our Mental Health Inpatient settings and Community Mental Health Teams.

The Network also facilitates regular focus groups, writing groups, a carers group and peer support groups for users of mental health services.

Janice Mitchell, our HSCP’s Planning and Performance Officer in Mental Health Services, links with the Mental Health Network. Janice recently attended the Network’s Wellness Group to hear from service user Carol Wallace from North Lanarkshire.

Janice said: “Carol came along to the group to share her recovery journey with Network members. Carol spoke very passionately about peer support and the benefits to participants which the Network believes plays a massive part in a person's recovery. Carol explained how she became involved as a volunteer with the Beatson Cancer Charity. Carol has now raised over £4,000 for the cancer charity and explained how becoming a volunteer has helped her recovery. We all left the session feeling very motivated. Special thanks to Carol for agreeing to speak to the group and we look forward to her next visit.”
