Enhanced Care Service recognised at NHSGGC Celebrating Success Staff Awards
A Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP) service that is helping people with complex care needs leave hospital sooner and receive the right support in a more homely environment has been recognised at this year’s NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) Celebrating Success Staff Awards.
The Enhanced Care Service was named our HSCP’s Overall Staff Awards for Excellence (SAFE) Winner at the annual awards, which recognise outstanding achievements by staff and teams across NHSGGC and the HSCPs. The service was previously recognised as the 'Innovation of the Year' category winner at our HSCP's SAFE Awards earlier in the year.
Developed in response to delayed hospital discharges, the service provides 30 enhanced care beds across Hawthorn House and Meadowburn Care Homes. It supports people with complex needs through short-term care, rehabilitation and assessment, helping them recover while plans for their longer-term care are put in place.
The service has helped reduce unnecessary hospital stays, improve patient flow and ensure people receive personalised care in a more appropriate setting. Feedback from service users has been overwhelmingly positive, highlighting the value of this person-centred and forward-thinking approach.
Our HSCP’s Chief Officer Pat Togher congratulated the winning team and all Glasgow City HSCP nominees: “I am incredibly proud of all our nominees and the dedication, compassion and commitment they demonstrate in supporting our colleagues, patients and the communities we serve. Huge congratulations to you all.”
Robin Wallace, Head of Residential and Day Care Services for Older People, said the service is providing a vital bridge between hospital and longer-term care:
“The success of the Enhanced Care Service demonstrates the positive impact that innovative, person-centred approaches can have on both individuals and the wider health and social care system. By enabling people to recover in a supportive environment while receiving tailored assessment and rehabilitation, the service is helping more people achieve the right care, in the right place, at the right time.
“Congratulations once again to everyone involved in the Enhanced Care Service and to all Glasgow City HSCP staff who were nominated for this year’s Celebrating Success Staff Awards. Their commitment, compassion and professionalism continue to make a real difference to the lives of people and communities across Glasgow every day.”
