Scottish Health Awards 2020 – AHP award winner and praise for Equipu Store service support
At a virtual awards ceremony on the 9th Dec, hosted by Fred MacAulay, Alex Kane, Specialist Physiotherapist in Glasgow City HSCP Children’s services, won the Scottish Allied Health Professional (AHP) Award.
Alex received the award for her work developing a resource which will be used across NHS GGC, allowing children requiring 24 hour postural care to trial sleep systems for cots and beds. Alex was supported by her local team and the wider physiotherapy service, liaising with families, postural care reps, and the Equipu Partnership Community Equipment Store service, to develop a store of assessment sleep system kits that could be loaned to families, ensuring that the most appropriate system was recommended and prescribed. Receiving the award, Alex generously thanked everyone who helped set up the project but in particular thanked the families for the incredible work they do. She has also highlighted that “we couldn’t have achieved what we did without the support and efforts from the Equipu Store service and project team”
Although there was no actual glamorous awards ceremony, Alex did get to chat with Fred MacAulay and received an award for her mantelpiece.
Allison Morrison, Physiotherapy Professional Lead for Specialist Children's Services commented, “Really well done Alex!, we are very proud to have the national AHP winner in our HSCP service, and delighted that the Equipu service has been able to play a part in making this happen.”
