North East Hub Project

As part of the North East Hub (Parkhead Hub) Health and Care Centre project and our commitment towards community investment, we are seeking to deliver the next hub West Scotland Helping Hands Initiative within the North East / Parkhead area of Glasgow.  

The North East Hub (New Parkhead Health and Care Centre) is a £60m health care project in the North East of Glasgow. The project will bring together a number of public facing community health and social care services, which are currently located over nine different sites. The facility will provide community spaces including bookable rooms and café provision, along with the relocation of the existing Parkhead library service.

The project is being developed for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde in conjunction with Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP), Glasgow City Council and Glasgow Life. Phase 1 of the project began in October 2020 with the main works taking place towards the end of 2021. 

Helping Hands Initiative

The Helping Hands Initiative was created by hub West Scotland to support an identified local community project or group with materials and labour to support the upgrading of an existing community resource premise. This is a project related initiative that supports a refurbishment project identified by local stakeholders.  The project requires to be of a scale that can be completed within five working days, and which does not require any major alterations to the facility or to materially change the scale or external appearance of the facility (as both would then require building control and planning approvals).  

The following support is provided by hub West Scotland and our supply chain:

• project planning and assistance in compiling a brief and assessment of property improvement possible
• all materials and labour provided by hub West's supply chain
• support with communications to local press
• construction supervision and management during the project 
• professional advice and practical support and
• help with tea making and cakes for the workforce.

Project Aims 

• Legacy – we want to leave a positive legacy through the work that we do and in the local area where we are working. 
• Positive impact - improve the facilities of a charity or community group that they would not have the money / resource to do themselves.
• Health and Wellbeing to our employees and to wider society.

How will the project be selected?

The project has established a Community Investment Working Group consisting of the key project stakeholders who will receive, assess and evaluate all applications. The application form provides further details of the evaluation criteria. Projects must also deliver community services in one of the following key priority groups:

• mental health and wellbeing
• care experienced individuals and
• addictions recovery.
