Recent Awards and Nominations for Glasgow City HSCP Staff and Projects

Published:

Several Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP) staff and projects have been nominated and successful in recent awards. Congratulations to all staff involved and good luck to those still to hear results!

The HSCP’s Housing First Service is one of three finalists in the ‘Excellence in Adult Services’ category in this year’s Scottish Social Services Awards. The winner will be announced at the Award ceremony on 15 September.

Housing First staff work collaboratively with third sector organisations and housing associations to deliver permanent tenancies for long-term homeless people, considered as having multiple complex needs. The service helps people to move straight into permanent, choice-based tenancies with intensive and open-ended support, improving access to collaborative care and treatment and promoting recovery and community bonding. Housing First has achieved over 260 permanent tenancies where sustainment has remained at over 83% over three years.

Craig Davidson, a nurse within our HSCP’s Asylum Health Bridging Team, has been nominated for the Rising Star honour at the Nursing Times Awards 2022.

Craig works to support the health of asylum seekers and, most recently, Ukrainian refugees who have been welcomed to the city, and he’s a passionate advocate for equality and LGBTQ+ rights. Craig won the Nursing Times Student Nurse of the Year Award in 2019 and we wish him further success at the Award Ceremony on 26 October.

Sandyford Sexual Health Services and Terrance Higgins Trust UK - GlasGowGetTested Campaign has been shortlisted at this year’s Herald Digital Transformation Awards for the Best use of Technology in Healthcare Award. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) commissioned Terrence Higgins Trust to design a social marketing intervention to encourage Gay, Bisexual and other men who have sex with men (GBMSM) to test for HIV at a frequency based on their levels of sexual risk.

Nicky Coia, Health Improvement Manager (Sexual Health) said: “The benefits of testing are clear. If people test positive for HIV, they can access immediate treatment which means they can live long and healthy lives as well being unable to transmit the virus to others. If they test negative, they can access ways to prevent HIV in future including pre-exposure-prophylaxis (PrEP).”

The Design in the Dale landscape public artwork commission at Leverndale Hospital in South Glasgow was a finalist in the recent Scottish Design Awards in the Design for Good Category.

Samantha Flower, Occupational Therapy Mental Health Advisor and SMT lead for the arts and landscape project led the fundraising for the project. She said: “Congratulations to all staff involved, and huge thanks to Lindsay Perth, artist for her wonderful designs and to Jackie Sands, Health Improvement Senior, Art and Health for completing the Creative Scotland bid that helped to fund the whole programme.”

Kenna Campbell, Glasgow City Health Improvement Team, attended this year’s annual NHS Scotland event in Aberdeen on 21 June where the team had been selected as finalists to present their poster on creating cancer screening animations for ethnic communities across Glasgow.  Kenna was delighted to report that their poster was one of the top three in the 'Health of the Population' category. You can view the poster  and watch the cancer screening animations.

One of Glasgow’s Community Link Workers, Phil Donnelly, based at Midlock Medical Centre in South Glasgow, won the 'Social Prescribing Link Worker of the Year' award at the National Association of Link Workers UK Awards on 19 May. The awards celebrate Social Prescribing Link Workers’ impact and recognise all those who have made outstanding contributions to ‘Transform Healthcare for All’ through social prescribing.

Lorna Robertson, Community Link Worker, based at Drs Duffy and Morgan, Drumchapel Health Centre, was also a finalist.

Keppoch Medical Practice in Possilpark Health and Care Centre was a finalist in the category ‘Social Prescribing Partnership of the Year’.
