SDCF - Engagement

In September 2023 Glasgow City Integration Joint Board (IJB) approved a plan to implement a Safer Drug Consumption Facility in Hunter Street Health and Social Care centre.

Safer drug consumption facilities (SDCFs) are clean, hygienic environments where people can consume drugs, obtained elsewhere, under the supervision of trained health and social care professionals, reducing the risk of overdose and infectious diseases whilst offering support and access to healthcare and social care services.

The Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP) is developing a plan to listen to the views and share information on the implementation of the Safer Drug Consumption Facility. The HSCP want to talk to and hear the views of as many people, groups or organisations as possible that might have an interest in this service, including:

  • families, carers and their representatives
  • local businesses
  • staff working in health and social care services
  • Integration Joint Board Members, Council Elected Members, Community Councils and Health Board Members
  • providers and contractors of health and social care services from the independent and voluntary sectors
  • partner organisations
  • other third sector and voluntary organisations who may have an interest
  • housing associations/registered social landlords.

Engagement activity

Engagement activity is already underway and the HSCP are keen to involve local residents or those living in the vicinity with an interest in the service.

Engagement will continue throughout the implementation of the service and once it’s up and running. Including opportunities in the new year for anyone out with the area of the facility who would like to get involved.

The table below contains information on some of the engagement activity that has taken place or is planned to take place. This table will be updated from time to time. Where the engagement opportunity is open to attendance from members of the local community or other stakeholders to attend, or where you can access details of the activity the dates and relevant links are provided for your information. Please make contact directly with each forum if you wish to get involved.
