Praise for Leverndale Hospital's mental health wards

Our HSCP’s older people's mental health wards have been praised by the Mental Welfare Commission for Scotland (MWCS) for their high quality care and high standard of care planning.

Balmore and Banff Wards at Glasgow City Health and Social Care (HSCP)’s Leverndale Hospital were visited by the MWCS in February 2025.

Injuries caused by falls are a leading cause of hospital admission and death for those aged over 75. On average, there are over 4,000 hospital admissions in Glasgow each year due to a fall.  

Fear of falling can result in inactivity, loss of confidence and increased risk of falls in older people. It can also result in reduced social interactions leading to isolation or loneliness.

NHSGGC issues MMR vaccine reminder to parents and carers

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is reminding parents and carers to make sure their child takes up their invitation to receive the MMR vaccine.

The vaccine, which is given to children at age one, and then administered as a booster at three years four months, is a highly effective protection against measles, mumps and rubella.

DFN Project SEARCH is an innovative and exciting work experience programme for young people aged between 18 to 29 years with learning disabilities and/or autistic spectrum conditions. In Glasgow, the 2025 programme is open for applications and will begin in August.

Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP) commissions three recovery communities covering the North West, North East and South of the city.

Recovery groups set up by lived experience peers have operated independently throughout Glasgow for more than 20 years. They’ve developed to become larger communities that together promote and deliver recovery initiatives, to support people experiencing alcohol and drug harms in each sector of the city.

Collaboration brings new Breathing Space bench to Gartnavel Hospital

Through a collaborative effort, our Glasgow City Suicide Prevention Partnership and other partners have unveiled a new ‘Breathing Space’ bench at Gartnavel Hospital, near Hyndland railway station. Designed to provide a quiet space for reflection and conversation, the bench aims to support mental wellbeing in the community.
