Glasgow's Winter Night Shelter now open with a change of name and a new location.

Now known as the Overnight Welcome Centre, the emergency accommodation for people at risk of rough sleeping in winter will be provided in a Glasgow hotel, rather than in Lodging Housing Mission in East Campbell Street.

This move is due to the current Coronavirus pandemic and will enable people to physically distance and if necessary, socially isolate. This would not have been possible at the usual location which offers dormitory style accommodation.

Accolade for Truly Inspirational Mental Health Officer

Congratulations to former Glasgow Health & Social Care employee, Colin Fraser, who has been named Mental Health Officer of the Year 2020.

Clare Haughey MSP, Minister for Mental Health, hailed Colin as "truly inspirational" as she presented him (virtually) with the Scottish Association of Social Work award.

Colin, who worked with Glasgow City HSCP helping people in mental distress in Glasgow for many years, was nominated by his social work colleagues ahead of his recent retirement.

A new ‘Guide to Paying for your Care Home’ booklet has been developed to support service users and families to navigate through this financial assessment process.

Glasgow City Health Improvement Annual Report 2019/20 Now Available

The Annual Report for Glasgow City Health Improvement is now available.  This report provides an insight into the progress made by Health Improvement to improve health and reduce health inequalities in 2019/20.  Progress is framed in relation to the three Strategic Direction headers of: Building Mental Well-being and Resilience, Building Structurally and Socially Resilient Communities and Creating a Culture for Health in the City.  The report highlights the way in which teams work across population, people and place to reach those who need support.

Home Care Recruitment Campaign Reaches Final of APSE Awards

Glasgow City HSCP was recognised at the Association for Public Service Excellence (APSE) awards for public sector excellence last week.

The Care Team were finalists in the category ‘Best Efficiency and Transformation Initiative’, for the mass home care recruitment campaign which ran in April last year. They worked alongside the Council’s Marketing, Social Media and PR team to run a multi-platform recruitment campaign across two weeks. They then overhauled the recruitment process to make it more timely and less admin intensive by incorporating a pre-screening tool.

Orchard Grove celebrates tenth anniversary

On 6 September, residents, their families, friends and staff all got together at our Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP)’s Orchard Grove residential care home to celebrate the home being operational for 10 years. We wanted to celebrate this achievement of providing a decade of the highest quality of personalised care by having a huge ‘Young at Heart’ party with all the people we consider family.

Evelyn Downie, Service Manager said: “We sent invites to everyone, residents’ families and our staff, who came along and joined us as we celebrated one another.

New five-year Nursing and Midwifery strategy

‘Leading the Way’ is the new Nursing and Midwifery Strategy for all nurses and midwives across NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC), which includes Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP), over the next 5 years.

Launched in May 2025, the strategy is supported by a transformative approach to listening, known as the ‘Big Conversation’, and underpinned by close collaboration of nurses, midwives, and healthcare support workers.

The Thistle: supporting people, saving lives

Nine months ago, Glasgow made history by opening the UK’s first safer drug consumption facility (SDCF) — known as The Thistle — at the Hunter Street Health and Care Centre. Since then, the service has seen a huge amount of interest from the media, local communities, and professionals across the city.

Recognition for our Mental Health Nursing Staff at National Awards

Congratulations to Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP) staff who were recognised at a recent national event for their excellent contribution to mental health nursing.

The Mental Health Nursing Forum (Scotland) celebrated excellence in mental health practice at a conference and awards ceremony held on 9 October at Glasgow City Chambers.
