Prisoners leaving Barlinnie Prison in Glasgow are being offered a life-saving nasal inhaler, which can save the life of someone who has an opioid overdose. 

Nyxoid is a nasal spray version of naloxone, which temporarily reverses the effects of opioids such as heroin, methadone, fentanyl, oxycodone, buprenomorphine and morphine. When administered, it buys time for emergency services to provide appropriate treatment for someone who is having an overdose.

Huge congratulations to Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership’s (HSCP) Homeless Health and Asylum Service (now called Complex Needs and Asylum Health Services) who were announced as the winner of the People's Choice Award at the Scottish Health Awards 2021 on Thursday, 4 November. The service was one of six finalists with the winner decided by a public vote.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) welcomed the reduction in drug related death figures across Scotland as Drugs Minister Elena Whitham visited the Enhanced Drug Treatment Service, managed for NHSGGC by Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP). 

Recent figures from the National Records of Scotland highlight a decline in drug deaths across Scotland, with a 21% reduction marking a significant step in the right direction in addressing substance abuse issues.

Nicola Boyle, a Health Visitor in Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP)’s North West Locality, won the Children’s Choice Award at the 2023 Scottish Children’s Health Awards in September.

The Children’s Choice Award recognises someone who has made a significant difference to a child or young person undergoing treatment in hospital, at home or in the community. It’s a ‘thank you’ in recognition of the difference they’ve made to a child’s world.

Glasgow marks World Suicide Prevention Day

From 4 to 10 September, Scotland stood together during Suicide Prevention Week to raise awareness and shine a light on suicide and what we can do to keep each other safe.

Minister visits our listening service for young people experiencing emotional distress

Maree Todd MSP, Minister for Public Health, Women’s Health and Sport recently visited the Young People’s Compassionate Distress Response Service (CDRS). 

Run by Glasgow Association for Mental Health (GAMH) on behalf of Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP), the CDRS provides a listening service for people aged over 16, experiencing emotional distress.

Ms Todd, and colleagues from the Scottish Government, were met by young people who have used the service, as well as staff from GAMH and the HSCP.

Mohannad, a Pre-Registration Pharmacy Technician was named Year One Apprentice of the Year 2023, at the NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde (NHSGG) Modern Apprentice Celebration and Awards Event in September.
