Glasgow Celebrated Mental Health Nurses on 21 February

Published:

National Mental Health Nurses Day on 21 February was an opportunity to support and celebrate mental health nursing and thank staff working in our mental health services for their impactful contribution to society.

To mark the day, many teams across our Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership (GCHSCP) took time out of their busy day to celebrate and reflect on their role as mental health nurses.

In the northwest of the city, mental health nurses were invited to enjoy a tea break together and share reflections on what it means to be a mental health nurse.

To celebrate our newly qualified mental health nurses, a breakfast event was organised to share stories and reflections from their first year as registered mental health nurses.

Nurses were also treated to a bit of pampering with a wellness station set up where they could enjoy 10 minutes of ‘me time’ with a hand massage and a mini manicure.

At the Stobhill Campus teams were invited to drop-in throughout the day to enjoy a cuppa and even a boogie at the Silent Disco set up in the Rendezvous Café.

The highlight of the day though was a look back through the ages of mental health nursing with an exhibit showing nursing uniforms down through the years.

In the south of the city, the Perinatal Mental Health Mother and Baby Unit also hosted a tea to mark the day with themed cupcakes.

Our Complex Needs Team organised a pancake breakfast to celebrate their team members and colleagues.

Lorraine Cribbin, Acting Chief Nurse - Adult Services, Glasgow City HSCP said: “I often urge mental health nurses to please take a moment to stop, reflect and acknowledge each other. Congratulate each other on what you have achieved and continue to achieve. Be proud of your contribution to the continued delivery of compassionate, person-centred, safe and effective care, that ensures the people who use our mental health services, who are some of the most vulnerable people in our society, have a positive and helpful experience."

Lorraine added: “To all my mental health nursing colleagues I say I hope you’ve enjoyed your celebrations on 21 February - Thank you.”
