Web Accessibility Guidance

Background

The Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018 came into force on 23 September 2018. The Regulations require that public sector websites and mobile apps be made more accessible to all users, particularly for users who have accessibility needs. This includes all their design, coding and content. The Regulations build on existing obligations to people who have a disability under the Equality Act 2010, where all UK service providers must consider reasonable adjustments for people with a disability.

Websites and mobile apps will meet the newer legal requirements if they:

  • meet the international WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standard and
  • publish an accessibility statement that explains how accessible the website or mobile app is.

Glasgow City HSCP currently publishes and maintains content for two public-facing websites that are branded as HSCP websites:

  • Glasgow City HSCP, which includes information on the work and services of the HSCP and IJB and
  • Your Support Your Way Glasgow, which includes information, advice and guidance about local services and sources of help that support people to live more independently within their communities.

Content is also published on Glasgow City Council and NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde websites.

Glasgow City HSCP is committed to any documents published on its websites or those of its partner organisations meeting accessibility standards where possible. Documents include PDFs and Microsoft Word and PowerPoint files, as well as printed publications. If it has not been possible to create an accessible document and you require the information in another format, then please contact GCHSCP_Communications@glasgow.gov.uk.

Guidance

Guidance notes have been developed for creating a range of accessible documents:

A checklist for creating accessible Word documents is also available.
