Gartnavel Royal Hospital’s ‘Art in the Gart’ and Project Ability are proud to present the exhibition ‘The Hidden Revealed’ as part of the Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival (SMHAF) 2024.

The free exhibition is on show now at the Art in the Gart Gallery, Ground Floor, The Hub, Gartnavel Royal Hospital until September 2025.

The Hidden Revealed gathers a mix of painting, drawing and printmaking made by patients from the three Adult Acute Admission wards at Gartnavel Royal Hospital and patients of the Intensive Psychiatric Care Unit, along with work made by Project Ability ReConnect participants.

Led by the Mental Health Foundation, the SMHAF is one of the world’s leading arts events dedicated to mental health.

Project Ability and Art in the Gart regularly work together to promote mental health and wellbeing through creativity and art making.

Several artists working with a Project Ability tutor within Gartnavel Royal Hospital are exhibiting, along with Project Ability ReConnect artists Sean Ferguson, Jane Fisher, Stuart Low, Simon McAuley, Ruth Mutch, Brian Skillin and Crystal Souter.

Fiona Sinclair, Voluntary Services Manager, Gartnavel Royal Hospital said: “Art in the Gart is the Gartnavel Royal creative volunteer programme, which offers patients the chance to engage with art specialists across a range of media. On this occasion, Project Ability tutors and volunteers worked alongside in-patient artists to develop original drawings, paintings and collage. This artistic activity and the sociable, creative environment in which it takes place, helps build self-confidence and enables self-expression.”
