Call for Foster Carers: Glasgow needs more people like you

Published:

Glasgow needs more foster carers to help provide safe, stable, and nurturing homes for its children and young people.

We know our staff are compassionate and work to improve the lives of the most vulnerable people in Glasgow. These qualities make brilliant foster carers.

Fostering plays a life-changing role for hundreds of children across the city every day. Whether caring for a child long term, for a short period, or during occasional weekends, foster carers help bring security, stability, and joy at times when children need it most. While fostering can be challenging, it’s also deeply rewarding, and carers are never expected to do it alone.

Many people already working to support families and young people have the qualities that make exceptional foster carers: compassion, patience, understanding, and flexibility, alongside a genuine desire to improve a child’s life.

A spare bedroom is essential, but background, relationship status, or housing situation are not barriers. Foster carers can be single or in a couple, homeowners or renters, with or without children, and from a wide range of ages and life experiences.

Support for foster carers is comprehensive. Every carer is allocated a dedicated supervising social worker who provides guidance, support, and regular supervision. As Scotland’s largest provider of foster care, the service offers extensive experience at every stage of the fostering journey.

You’ll receive:
•    Full training
•    A dedicated Social Worker
•    24/7 support
•    Support Groups
•    Fostering Fee and Allowance

Recently, a new GOLD e-learning platform has been launched for all Glasgow City Council Foster Carers and Adopters with many informative courses. Additionally, there will soon be a community space on the e-learning platform – this will be a space for carers and adopters to talk to each other and share examples of good practice.

There are several types of fostering available, including short breaks, short-term placements, and long-term care. Foster carers receive full training, 24/7 support, access to support groups, a dedicated social worker, and a fostering fee and allowance.

Anyone curious about fostering is encouraged to find out more and take the next step by visiting www.fosterglasgow.org or by contacting the friendly team at Families.children@sw.glasgow.gov.uk.
