Celebrating International Nurses Day 2024
On 12 May Glasgow City HSCP staff celebrated International Nurses Day, a global recognition of nurses' commitment, compassion, and invaluable contributions to society. This day, established in 1974 by the International Council of Nurses, underscores the crucial role nurses play in health and social care.
This year's theme, "Our Nurses. Our Future. The Economic Power of Care," invites us to reflect on the significant impact nurses have on our communities and economies. To illustrate the remarkable work of our teams and to understand what matters most to our nursing staff, a digital interactive whiteboard was created for all nurses to have input and share their thoughts. This electronic canvas showcases the dedication and aspirations of our nurses, highlighting their achievements and future goals.
Our colleagues in prison healthcare, sexual health, and Woodlands Older People Mental Health (OPMH)services organized delightful 'tea and cakes' events, celebrating their achievements over the past year and sharing their career journeys.
At Stobhill Hospital, our therapeutic activity nurses hosted a karaoke and tea event for all nurses to enjoy.
Additionally, various services across Adult Services held quizzes and fun team events to come together in this celebration.
Lorraine Cribbin, our HSCP’s Chief Nurse for Adult Services, expressed her gratitude: “I want to send a huge thank you to all our HSCP nurses for your ongoing commitment, professionalism, and unique contribution to person-centered care for the citizens of Glasgow. International Nurses Day is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate, come together, and take pride in all that you do. I hope you all had a great day; it’s very well deserved.”
This year’s International Nurses Day was especially important as our colleagues from the West of Scotland Mother and Baby Unit, Police Custody Healthcare, Prison Healthcare, and North East Community Mental Health Team were all shortlisted for the prestigious RCN Awards held on May 23, 2023.
We are thrilled to announce that the Police Custody Healthcare Team was named Nursing Team of the Year and that John McDonald, Senior Addiction Nurse in our HSCP’s North East Alcohol and Drug Recovery Service, won the RCN Scotland Adult Nursing award. At the awards many other teams and individuals received recognition for their outstanding contributions. Well done to all! For more details, read more about the RCN Awards.
