King’s Birthday Honour for HSCP staff member
A member of Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP) is being recognised with a MBE in the King’s Birthday Honours List.
Huge congratulations goes to Anna Toland, Senior Officer/Mental Health Officer, with our Adult Support and Protection Team, which works closely with the locality teams to safeguard and support adults across Glasgow.
Anna was recognised with an MBE on 14 June for services to health and social care in Glasgow, in her previous role as a Team Leader within the North East Older People’s Service. During this role, Anna also won our HSCP’s Staff Awards for Excellence 2022 in the Leader of the Year category.
As a Team Leader Anna delivered community health and social care services for vulnerable older adults. She successfully managed and motivated a team of social workers/mental health officers to meet their objectives in their social worker role.
Anna ensured that the wellbeing of all team members was considered and prioritised and promoted her team’s abilities which in turn benefited service users. Her team said she has outstanding leadership qualities and was always able to offer appropriate and clear direction when it was needed.
Because of Anna’s guidance, her team ensured that service users and carers receive appropriate support with dignity and understanding leading to good outcomes being met.
Anna’s role as Team Leader has been a critical part of the business for strategic planning to promote transformation in shifting the focus to ensure partnership working and enabling and supporting older people to remain at home.
Anna has worked in Glasgow as a qualified social worker since 1999 and is very proud to have worked with Glasgow City Council for 25 years this summer.
Anna said: “It was a real shock to receive the call from the Honours Committee. I had to ask a few times if it was some kind of wind up. They assured me it wasn’t and had to send me the written evidence to convince me! I was advised I couldn’t tell anyone until the Honours List was published so it’s been a strange few weeks. I did hesitate about accepting the award. The hesitation was due to feeling very uncomfortable at being singled out for recognition. All the HSCP teams I have been fortunate to be a part of, both from a frontline and a management perspective, work tirelessly in challenging circumstances to support vulnerable service users across Glasgow. They all deserve the same recognition in my view. So, in accepting, I’m doing so on behalf of all my friends, colleagues and teams in the HSCP in recognition of the great work they do!”
Jacqui McGoldrick, Head of Older People and Primary Care, North West Locality said: “It’s fantastic to see someone like Anna who does so much good in the community gaining this recognition. Anna absolutely deserves this award and would be the first to say she sees this as a broader appreciation of the invaluable work she and her colleagues carry out every day.”
