Mark wins at national Healthcare Science Awards

Mark Mason, Biomedical Scientist, at the Sandyford Sexual Health Services, was named Healthcare Scientist of the Year at a national awards ceremony to celebrate the work of healthcare scientists.

The Chief Scientific Officer’s Awards for Healthcare Science were held as part of Healthcare Science Week in March to celebrate the skills and expertise of healthcare scientists across Scotland.

They recognise innovation and transformation within services, leadership within the workforce, and high-quality education and service delivery. They also provide a platform to share best practice throughout the profession.

Presenting the awards, Chief Scientific Officer for Scotland, Catherine Ross, said: “Mark is a prominent biomedical scientist … who allows the clinic to offer a world class satellite laboratory for near-patient microscopy. Mark is also involved in academic research which has been critical in improving treatment options and outcomes for patients.”

Jennifer Jamieson, Adult Service Manager – Sexual Health Services attended the ceremony with Mark. She said: “I was delighted to attend and see Mark receive his award that recognises all of his very hard work and dedication to biomedical science, in particular in the field of sexual health. Very well done, Mark!”

Rhoda MacLeod, Head of Adult Services (Sexual Health, Police Custody and Prison Health Care) said: “On behalf of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership and Sandyford Sexual Health Service, I wish to congratulate Mark in this great achievement. His contribution to Sandyford and biomedical sciences within sexual health over the years has been invaluable and we’re so pleased that this has been recognised in this way. Well done, Mark!”
