New video explains vaccinations for young people

Glasgow City HSCP hosts childhood immunisations on behalf of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC), which includes pre-school age and school-aged immunisations.

Young Scot along with NHS Inform have developed a video called Vaccines for Young People to help people understand more about school-aged immunisations. The video features Lynda Doherty, a NHSGGC Childhood Immunisation Nurse Coordinator being interviewed by two young people in S1 and S3 about the vaccinations offered within secondary school.

Immunisations help protect against serious, vaccine preventable diseases. Once we’ve been immunised, our bodies are better able to fight these diseases if we come into contact with them.

Lynda said: “I have vaccinated thousands of individuals from babies, to school age children, young adults and elderly people. In the video I answer common questions  about school aged vaccinations – the HPV vaccine, MenACWY vaccine and DTP vaccine. Young people should ask their teachers or vaccinator if they have any questions and discuss the vaccination with their parents. You can also find lots of verified information about all vaccinations on NHS Inform.”

Mags Simpson, our HSCPs Children’s Services Manager, North East Locality and Childhood Immunisations NHSGGC said: “Lynda does an amazing job of answering the questions from the young people, as well as encouraging completion of the vaccination consent forms.

“We would like to ask parents to please remember to return completed consent forms as it’s really helpful to know parent and child have had a conversation prior to the vaccination taking place.”
