Nursing Professional Governance Framework and Corporate Nursing Plans Now Available

Published: | Nursing

Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP) Professional Governance Framework and Corporate Nursing Plans is now complete and available on our HSCP’s website in the Publications and Meetings section.

Our Professional Nursing Leadership Team led by Dr Julia Egan, Chief Nurse for Glasgow City and Lorraine Cribbin, Acting Chief Nurse for Adult Services have developed the Nursing Professional Governance Framework for our HSCP and hosted services. This framework will enable our nursing staff to easily access information on our aims and support them to get involved locally, by discussing the contents and considering how this applies to their day-to-day role.

Our Corporate Nursing Work Plans are based on the priorities and objectives set by our Chief Nurse. These take account of Board and National Nursing Strategy priorities and Glasgow City Integration Joint Board’s Strategic Plan for health and social care. The plan sets out key areas of contribution that support the delivery of the five priority areas in our IJB’s Strategic Plan. These priority areas are: prevention, early intervention and harm reduction; providing greater self-determination and choice; shifting the balance of care; enabling independent living for longer and public protection. The plan also includes workforce development to support integrated team and service delivery.

A range of nursing services are managed by our HSCP for Adults, Older People and Children and Families. Lorraine Cribbin is our Acting Chief Nurse for Adult Services. Our Professional Nurse Lead for Children and Families is Mhairi Cavanagh and our Professional Nurse Lead for Older People is Ellice Morrison.

There are also a range of Professional Nurse Leads (PNLs), Lead Nurses, Consultant Nurses and Senior Nurse Practice Development (SNPD) roles across service areas. The structure also includes a Senior Nurse for Quality and Transformation and specialist practice development roles all of whom support our work on quality. A structure chart is available in Part 1 of the Framework and Plans.

Our HSCP Older People’s and Community Nursing Services include District Nursing, Rehabilitation Nursing, Treatment Room and Care Service, Vascular Nurses, Care Home Team Nurses, Hospital at Home Team members, Practice Development Nurses, Specialist Nurses and Advanced Nurse Practitioners.

Adult Services include Inpatient and Community Services for Adult and Older People’s Mental Health, Sexual Health, Prison and Police Custody Healthcare, Specialist Mental Health Services such as Perinatal Mental Health, Esteem, Adult Eating Disorders, Mental Health Liaison / Out of Hours and Unscheduled Care, Psychotherapy and Alcohol and Drug Recovery Services.

Children and Families Services include Health Visiting, School Nursing, Practice Development Nurses, immunisation teams and Family Nurse Partnership (FNP).

Dr Julia Egan, Chief Nurse said: “The Professional Nurse Leads in each area will take part in a quarterly reporting and assurance process that will help us share our progress on the plans. We’ll also use this to provide evidence and assurance of our professional nursing governance, practice development and staff engagement. I ask all nursing staff to please make themselves aware of the structure, the framework and plans and how they can contribute to it.”

Our Practice Development Nursing staff are currently developing a website for the service. So far information is available for District Nurses at https://www.nhsggc.org.uk/about-us/professional-support-sites/nurses-midwives/nursing-midwifery-directorate/district-nurses/
