Review of 16+ Accommodation and Support Services

Published:

Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP) is excited to give you an update on the review of 16+ Accommodation and Support Services.

Our vision in this review is that we have accommodation and support services that meet the needs of all our care leavers and young homeless people to enable them to thrive.

We’ve followed the Scottish Approach to Service Design throughout this review. So far this year we’ve been spending time gathering data and analysing this to help us understand the needs of our young people, what’s working well and what areas we need to work on.

Our Promise Participation Workers Chizy Lingham, Samantha Dullughan and Keiran MacKenzie have been carrying out work with young people living in our 16+ accommodation to ensure that their voices are central in the review. They’ve found young people have really welcomed this opportunity and their views have already really helped challenge our thinking and inform the next steps.

We’ve created a Practice Redesign Forum, a group of our key stakeholders including young people, that will take the review into the next stages of redesign. We’ll be presenting our analysis to the Practise Redesign Forum in the coming weeks and will hold redesign sessions throughout the rest of the year and at the beginning of 2024.

As part of the review, we’re carrying out a ‘test for change’ and have invested in Housing First for Youth, which is targeted at supporting our care leavers who have complex needs. We’re delighted that Rock Trust is delivering this model. They have lots of experience delivering this model in other local authorities, with high levels of success. They started working with young people in Glasgow in June and are building up the service to support 35 young people in their own tenancies. To learn more about this service please contact Alice.Vaughan@rocktrust.org or Rebecca.Cochrane@glasgow.gov.uk.

Liz Simpson, our Head of Children’s Services (North West) commented: “Thank you to all our third sector partners, stakeholders and young people for their contributions so far. I would especially like to thank the Promise Participation Workers for the valuable work they’ve carried out ensuring that we have the views of young people at the centre of this review. We’re keen to hear from as many young people as possible so if you know someone who has lived in Glasgow’s 16+ accommodation and they would like to participate in the review or share their views please share the link with them: www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/XLJKWO/”.

We look forward to keeping you updated as we move to the redesign phase. However, if you would like to get involved further or you know a young person that would like to, then please contact Rebecca.Cochrane@glasgow.gov.uk.
