Volunteering at Gartnavel Royal Hospital
Gartnavel Royal Hospital’s creative programme, Art in the Gart, celebrated the efforts and care shown by its volunteers at the Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership’s (HSCP) Staff Awards for Excellence.
Ross Parker (Games Volunteer) and Paul Young (Garden Volunteer), Art in the Gart, were each awarded Volunteer of the Year awards at the Awards Ceremony held at Glasgow City Chambers on 14 March.
Ross who is based in The Hub Café of Gartnavel Royal said: “I didn’t expect anything like this ever to happen. As a Volunteer, you just do what you do to help folks feel a bit better; it’s part of your day and it makes me feel good too to be involved. This is like the icing on the cake.”
Paul agreed and added that “if you haven’t visited The Summerhouse Gardens on the site yet, get yourself along and see the wee plants coming to life. There’s lots of wildlife and we work hard to keep them safe, and they then help us look after the gardens for all of us. It’ll make you feel good to be in the calm. Then pop down to the Hub Café for a cuppa.”
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) has hundreds of volunteers in different roles all over the city. So if you’re interested in finding out more, please go the website for more information.
Gartnavel Royal Hospital’s Art in the Gart is currently recruiting for two roles: Hub Café Volunteer and Music Booker Volunteer.
Fiona Sinclair, our HSCP’s Art in the Gart, Voluntary Services Manager said: “We’re currently looking for two volunteers. One for the Hub Café, where if you have an interest in supporting the hospitality offered in the café and enjoy a good chat, we’d love to hear from you. The other post is for a volunteer music booker. This would suit someone who’s passionate about live music and understands the importance of music for good mental health. The role will help create a citywide database of musicians who can offer their talent to share music, perform and entertain across health settings in NHSGGC.”
