Learning Network West, an independent organisation funded by universities and local authorities, including Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership (GCHSCP), closed in March 2025 due to financial challenges.

Glasgow City HSCP Staff champion British Sign Language awareness

Staff across our Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP) are helping make our services more inclusive by learning British Sign Language (BSL) and raising awareness of its importance in our city.

Recently, a group of colleagues successfully achieved their Signature Level 1 in BSL, and another cohort has recently completed a six-week taster course where they learnt basic BSL communication skills useful for work and gained cultural awareness of the Deaf community.

National Power of Attorney (PoA) Day on 23 November is when the public are reminded of the importance of having Power of Attorney - a legal document that allows an agreed person to act on their behalf in the event of an emergency, illness or accident.

Statistics show that around a third of patients are delayed in their discharge from hospital because they don’t have one in place. That means more time in hospital and away from home comforts.

No Alcohol No Harm Warning for Mums to Be

For many years there have been mixed messages around drinking alcohol in pregnancy, but a new hard-hitting campaign by NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde aims to clear up the confusion once and for all. “No alcohol, no alcohol harm” is the theme of an information campaign, aimed at pregnant women and those thinking about having a baby, to highlight the risk of their child being born with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD).

This is when we focus on the contributions and experiences of black and minority ethnic people throughout centuries of our nation’s history.  It is important that we recognise the role of black and minority ethnic people in shaping Scotland’s history. The Coalition for Racial Equality and Rights (CRER) have organised a programme of events to explore the links between Scotland’s Black History and present day racism.  Events are varied and include :

The Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership’s Community Respiratory Team has been selected as a finalist at the 2017 Scottish Health Awards in association with the Scottish Government and Daily Record. The judging panel noted on the quality and strength of nominations this year.  The awards ceremony will be held at the Edinburgh Corn Exchange on Thursday 2nd November with the event hosted by Fred McCauley.

National Volunteers’ Week takes place from 1 to 7 June every year and is a celebration across the UK of all the contributions volunteers make to their community.

Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP) has a range of volunteers working across its services from Youth Heath, Health Improvement, Alcohol and Drugs, Residential Care and Mental Health. We would like to thank them for all their invaluable and diverse dedicated efforts in supporting the services we provide.

Our Telecare Service is going digital!

Telecommunications providers across the UK, such as BT, Virgin Media, Sky and Talk Talk are replacing analogue phone lines with digital equivalents with analogue phone lines being switched off by January 2027.

This shift means that phone services will be delivered in the same way as internet connections and will affect the delivery of telecare services across Scotland.
