Spotlight on Falls Week 2026

Published:

Falls Week 2026 provides an opportunity for us all to promote simple, evidence-based actions that help people remain safe, independent and well.

This year's theme, ‘Right Care, Right Time, Right Place’, reminds us that providing the right advice, support and intervention at the right moment can make a significant difference in preventing falls and maintaining independence.

Recognising the devastating impact falls can have on people, during Falls Awareness Week 2026, from 21 September, Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP) staff have organised a range of activities to raise awareness among staff and the public on how to prevent falls.

Lee Moody, Service Manager, Older People and Primary Care, North East Locality said: “Falls are not an inevitable part of ageing and we can all play our part in helping to reduce the likelihood of falls. We want to support individuals in our communities to continue to live well and to be able to continue doing what they love.

“This year during Falls Week, to improve awareness and to offer some practical advice on how to do that, we made Level 1 Falls Training available to all HSCP staff. Members of our Locality Rehab Services will also be offering advice on maintaining mobility, preventing falls and a chance to check your strength and balance.”

It is important to help individuals take simple actions that can reduce their risk of falling. Winter conditions can present additional challenges, including poor weather, darker evenings and reduced physical activity.”
