Tackling vaping among children and young people

Published:

Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP) staff have been recognised at this year’s NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde’s (NHSGGC) Public Health Staff Awards.

Our HSCP Health Improvement Team staff member Cara Stirling was honoured alongside her NHSGGC colleagues, with the group winning the Creativity in Problem Solving Award for their innovative work in developing video resources to tackle vaping among children and young people.

Due to increasing concerns about youth vaping in Scotland and a lack of practical prevention tools, staff created a suite of engaging, evidence-informed materials.

Cara said: “These materials were designed to support schools, youth services and families to discuss vaping and its associated harms and inform decision-making about vaping. They’re already in use by education staff, youth workers and local partners across Glasgow, helping staff to have more confident conversations with young people and strengthening community-wide prevention efforts.”

The award celebrates the team’s creative, collaborative approach and their ability to translate complex public health information into usable materials.
