Creating Circles of Support
We probably all know families who have their own roles in caring for a loved one, whether they’re the one who takes a parent to the shops, makes the dinners, gives a lift to appointments or just drops in for a cup of tea and a chat.
Not everyone is fortunate enough to have such family support around them. So a new pilot project, based on the successful ‘Family Group Decision Making’ approach with children and young people, is being launched in Glasgow to replicate elements of the family support circle.

Maximising Independence projects – supporting people and communities
As the maximising independence approach continues to become our ‘business as usual’ way of doing things across the HSCP, it’s helping us to achieve a fair and easier way for people to access support and prioritise what’s most important to them. Residents at Victoria Garden’s Care Home in Knightswood also celebrated the anniversary with a morning tea and an afternoon sing song. There were also garden or street parties in all services with entertainment organised wherever possible.

Supporting breastfeeding in Glasgow
Scottish Breastfeeding week ran from 9 to 15 June, and Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP) staff were out and about promoting the benefits of breastfeeding and celebrating the twentieth anniversary of the Breastfeeding (Scotland) Act 2005.
Breastfeeding is important to the health of both mother and baby. While many new mums start breastfeeding, some stop within a few weeks or months. This is often because they feel there’s a lack of support, particularly when they want to feed their baby outside their home.
