Supporting GP practices with their acute prescribing
An acute prescription is medication given to treat a sudden and short-term condition, also known as an acute condition, such as antibiotics to treat an infection. They’re also used when starting a new medication if there needs to be a review before you start taking it long term. If it’s deemed beneficial to your health, it may end up becoming a repeat prescription.
Working in the Safer Drug Consumption Facility in Scotland
The Safer Drug Consumption Facility (SDCF) in Glasgow offers a unique harm reduction approach in Scotland in response to the increased mortality and morbidity associated with injecting drug use as recommended by “Taking Away the Chaos” (NHS GG&C 2016).
The Glasgow SDCF will provide hygienic environments where illicit drugs (purchased off the premises) can be consumed under clinical supervision with the onsite availability of sterile injecting equipment, advice on injecting technique, overdose assistance, on-site health & social service.
